You call yourself a Christian?

"Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
"Judge not lest ye be judged."
"Give to him that asketh of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away."
"If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor."

These are all teachings of Jesus. Can you be a good Christian, or call yourself a Christian at all, if you do not at least strive to follow the above teachings?

Honestly I believe there are a great number of people who do try to follow these directions, but I have yet to meet a Christian on a message board or televangelizing that doesn't seem to honor the direct opposite of these teachings.

Gay marriage? Not your job to judge, just go on not being gay and let anyone who chastises you for your belief that homosexuality is a sin know that it is not an unforgivable one and that you welcome them into your flock if they would like to know the way.

Abusive atheist? Let them know they are not to be blamed for their lack of understanding, but that you are more than willing to help them if it is in their heart.

I'm sure there's more there, and I'll try to expand on these simple teachings of Christ that seem to very clearly call out a 'true' Christian from someone simply using religion to bash what he or she doesn't like.

  1. You're being a hypocrite because you are judging if Christians should judge. You judge yourself by believing that not judging is right but then you judge others judging others.

In Matthew 7:1, the Jesus said "Judge not, lest ye be judged". Not just "judge not". You yourself judged in this post.

As it's written in 1 Corinthians 2:15 "He who is spiritual judges all things"

What you're really working toward is the idea that you don't want Christians to quote what the Bible calls sin. Not doing this will make people engaging in such activity feel more comfortable in their conscious with doing it.
